The career of long-time National Hockey League forward Jakob Silfverberg will be coming to a close next week as he announced he will retire at the conclusion of the 2023-24 season.

Silfverberg, who is currently in his 12th season in the National Hockey League and 11th with the Anaheim Ducks, decided that it was time to hang up the skates and thanked his teammates, fans, coaches, teams he played for and his family for the support they gave him over the years.

"It's been an honor and privilege to play in the National Hockey League," said Silfverberg. "I want to thank the Samueli family for being who they are, gracious, community-minded owners that support their team while making a significant impact in our community. Obviously I wouldn't be where I am without my teammates, all the trainers and staff that have helped me along the way. Most importantly, thank you to my family who have supported me as I lived out a dream."

"Thank you to the fans around the league, specifically in Anaheim and Ottawa. To spend 11 years in Orange County playing for the Ducks is something I will cherish every day, thanks in large part to all of you."

Silfverberg, 33, was drafted by the Ottawa Senators in the second round in 2009 and was ultimately dealt to the Anaheim Ducks in July 2013 as part of the package for Bobby Ryan. In 817 career games in the NHL, the Gavle, Sweden native had 373 points (168 goals, 205 assists) and 262 penalty minutes. He also added 45 points in 69 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
