LATEST | Former Canucks top prospect seeking new team after being released from PTO
After only suiting up in one preseason game for the Arizona Coyotes, former Vancouver Canucks top prospect and fifth overall pick Olli Juolevi has been released from his professional tryout contract (PTO).
Juolevi, 25, has been looking to return to the National Hockey League for a couple of years now, last playing for the Florida Panthers and Detroit Red Wings during the 2021-22 season, appearing in 18 games.
During the 2022-23 season, Juolevi was in the American Hockey League with the San Deigo Gulls, who are the affiliate for the Anaheim Ducks. In 38 games for the Gulls, Juolevi had 14 points (one goal, 13 assists), 22 penalty minutes and was a minus-14.
It's unclear what may come next for the 2016 fifth-overall pick. It's likely he could sign another AHL contract to remain in North America, like he did last season, but there's also a chance he could return to Europe, more specifically, his home country - Finland.
Where do you think Juolevi's next home will be - North America (AHL) or in Europe? Share your thoughts with us in the poll below!
