Connor McDavid blames hockey Gods for game one loss to Florida
The Stanley Cup Final got underway on Saturday night and despite a strong effort, the Edmonton Oilers were unable to pull out a win as Florida took Game 1, 3-0.
After the game when meeting with reporters, Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid was disappointed that his team lost, but happy with the effort that gave from start to finish, feeling that they were unlucky.
McDavid said that it could have been the hockey gods getting them back for their Game 6 win in the Western Conference Final over the Dallas Stars, a game that the Oilers probably shouldn't have won.
In Game 6 against Dallas, the Oilers set a new National Hockey League record with the least amount of shots in a Conference Final clinching game with just 10, scoring twice.
Flash forward six days and the exact opposite happens to the Oilers. McDavid & co. were peppering Sergei Bobrovsky with shots and controlled the play for the majority of the 60 minutes, but the Panthers scored twice on 17 shots, and added an empty netter, to take a 1-0 series lead.
Game 2 between the Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers is set for Monday night in Sunrise. Puck drop is set for 8 pm ET/5 pm PT on CBC and Sportsnet across Canada.
