The Edmonton Oilers are in the middle of the Western Conference Final against the Dallas Stars, but for one former Vancouver Canuck, his season has come to an end early.
According to Jason Gregor, Edmonton Oilers defenceman Troy Steccher, who hasn't played in over a month, is set to undergo ankle surgery soon, thus ending his 2023-24 season.
Stecher, 30, last played on April 18th, which was the Oilers' final game of the regular season where he skated in over 16 minutes against the Colorado Avalanche. After that game, Stecher was in the press box for all of Edmonton's playoff games thus far but until now, it was unclear if he was just a healthy scratch or injured.
The Richmond, British Columbia native was traded to the Edmonton Oilers, along with a 2024 seventh round pick, by the Arizona Coyotes (now Utah), in exchange for a 2024 fourth round pick. Stecher appeared in seven games for the Oilers, putting up two assists, eight penalty minutes and was a plus-four. He's set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.
