Warren Foegele ejected from Game 2 after dangerous knee-on-knee
The Edmonton Oilers found themselves in penalty trouble early in Game 2 and went down to 11 forwards for the majority of the contest.
Nearly halfway through the first period on Monday night, Eetu Luostarinen had the puck just inside the blue line when Warren Foegele comes in to make a big hit, but catches the Finnish forward in the knee.
Luostarinen stayed down on the ice before being helped up and back to the Panthers' dressing room. Meanwhile, the officials were discussing what the call should be and decided on a five-minute major and game misconduct, but to be safe, reviewed the play first.
After reviewing the play, the call on the ice stood and Warren Foegele was given a five-minute major and a game misconduct for kneeing.
"Warren Foegele receives a five-minute major for this play on Eetu Luostarinen."
The Panthers failed to score on the powerplay, but went on to net four unanswered goals to take Game 2 by a score of 4-1 and now lead the 2024 Stanley Cup Final two games to none.
At the time of writing this, it's unclear if the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety will have a hearing with Warren Foegele, but it wouldn't come as a shock to anyone if they do. At minimum, Foegele could be looking at a fine from the NHL.
