Scary scene: Aleksander Barkov injured after crashing into the boards trying to save an empty net goal
The reigning Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers surprisingly lost their 2nd game of the regular season tonight (October 10th) against the Ottawa Senators 3-1, but they may have lost something way more valuable, their Captain Aleksander Barkov....
Stutzle with an incredible effort to clinch Ottawa win, but we await word on Barkovwho needed help off the ice after going in feet-first. Hopefully, not serious.
With 1:10 left on the clock in the 3rd period with their goalie pulled, Aleksander Barkov took a shot from the blue line that broke his stick in which resulted in an ensuing race for the puck down the ice. Tim Stutzle was able to get the advantage and tap the puck in but simultaneously, the two players got tied up and crashed into the boards, Stutzle was fine, Barkov was not.
Scary Scene: Barkov stays down causing concern
In the video provided by Sportsnet, you can see Barkov immediately start wincing in pain as he went feet first barreling into the boards. The concern started to grow in the arena as it took Barkov over a minute to collect himself and get up. Unfortunately, the injury may be severe as he needs both Evan Rodrigues and Uvis Balinskis to get him off the ice.
There is still no update on the extent of the injury.
Panthers head coach Paul Maurice did say that he will be undergoing tests tonight and tomorrow in order to get a full scale look at the timeframe of his return.
«He's going to get looked at here tonight, and probably tomorrow as well,» Panthers coach Paul Maurice said.
Hopefully his injury is nothing too serious and he is able to compete in front of his home crowd as the Florida Panthers will be traveling to his home country of Finland on November 1st & 2nd.
