Former Vancouver Canucks Forward Sam Gagner Signs Professional Tryout Contract
Former Vancouver Canucks forward Sam Gagner is back in North America and has landed a professional tryout contract (PTO) with a Canadian team.
It was unclear what the future held for the 35-year-old forward until the Carolina Hurricanes came calling in mid-September, signing him to a professional tryout contract (PTO) where he joined them for training camp and preseason games.
Ultimately, Gagner was released from his PTO and didn't suit up for another game until late-December when he was named captain for Team Canada at the 2024 Spengler Cup in Davos, Switzerland.
Gagner and Team Canada lost to German club Straubing Tigers in the semi-finals, and less than a month later, the London, Ontario native has found a new job.
Belleville Senators sign Sam Gagner to professional tryout contract (PTO)
In a post on their team website, the Belleville Senators, AHL affiliate of the Ottawa Senators, announced that they've signed former Vancouver Canucks forward Sam Gagner to a professional tryout contract.
"The Belleville Senators announced today that veteran forward Sam Gagner has agreed to a professional tryout with the American Hockey League club." the Senators announced.
In 81 games as a member of the Vancouver Canucks, Gagner recorded 34 points (11 goals, 23 assists), 39 penalty minutes and was a minus-21.
Gagner is expected to be in the Belleville Senators' lineup tonight as they take on the back-to-back Calder Cup champion Hershey Bears, AHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals.
