A former Vancouver Canucks prospect has signed a new National Hockey League contract for the 2025-26 season after a solid stint in the AHL this year.

Last year, after a pretty good showing at the 2024 IIHF World Championship with Latvia where he had four points in seven games, the Philadelphia Flyers signed former Vancouver Canucks prospect Rodrigo Abols to a one-year contract.
It marked Abols' third stint in North America after two years in the Canadian Hockey League from 2015 to 2017 and then one-year in the Florida Panthers system in 2019-20 before being released by the club in January 2021 and returning to Europe for the next four seasons.

On Thursday, the Philadelphia Flyers announced that they've agreed to terms on a one-year contract with Rodrigo Abols for the 2025-26 season and while the team didn't share financial details, according to PuckPedia, it's worth $800,000 USD.
"The Philadelphia Flyers have re-signed forwards Rodrigo Abols and Oscar Eklind each to one-year contract extensions, according to General Manager Daniel Briere." the Flyers said in a press release.

The Riga, Latvia native spent the majority of his time this season in the American Hockey League with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, registering 32 points (15 goals, 17 assists) in 47 games, while adding two goals in seven games during the Calder Cup Playoffs.
Abols got into 22 games throughout the season in the National Hockey League with the Flyers, making his debut on January 21st and scoring his first career goal on February 4th in Utah.
The 29-year-old centerman, who was selected in the sixth round, 184th overall by then Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning during the 2016 NHL Entry Draft never signed with the club and saw his signing rights expire while playing in Europe.
After concluding his 2024-25 season in North America with the Phantoms being eliminated in round two of the Calder Cup Playoffs, Abols quickly hopped on a plane and headed to Sweden for the remainder of the 2025 IIHF World Championship.
To the surprise of no one, Abols was given a big role at his first practice with Latvia on Friday as he was slotted into the 1C hole with former NHLers Rudolfs Balcers and Kaspars Daugavins on the wings and the ex-Canucks prospect expected to be in the lineup tomorrow against Finland.
