NHL Issues Major Announcement Involving Vancouver Canucks Coach Sergei Gonchar

Vancouver Canucks Defensive Development Coach and former NHL defenceman Sergei Gonchar has received a massive honor from the league this week.
Each franchise will have two Quarter-Century Teams unveiled which will consist of three forwards, two defensemen and one goaltender.
In the last ten days, we've seen more and more franchises have their Quarter-Century Teams released by the National Hockey League and on Thursday, it was time for Vancouver Canucks Defensive Development Coach Sergei Gonchar to be recognized.
Sergei Gonchar named to Pittsburgh Penguins Quarter-Century Team
Gonchar, a native of Chelyabinsk, Russia spent five seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins between 2005-06 and 2009-10, four of which he was apart of their leadership group as an alternate captain.
During his time in Pittsburgh, Gonchar appeared in 322 games where he registered 259 points (54 goals, 205 assists), 313 penalty minutes and was a minus-three.
In 2009, Gonchar helped the Penguins to their third Stanley Cup championship in franchise history.
"Gonchar got a lot done in just five seasons with the Penguins from 2005-10. He is second all-time among Pittsburgh defenseman in goals (54), assists (205) and points (259) in just 322 games. He is third among Penguins defenseman in playoff scoring with 44 points (seven goals, 37 assists) in 60 games. He won the Cup with the Penguins in 2009." NHL.com's Dan Rosen said.

The National Hockey League is set to unveil Vancouver's Quarter-Century Teams prior to puck drop of their game on January 21st against the Buffalo Sabres.
