SIGNING ALERT | Lightning sign 24-year-old forward fifty-two million dollars
The Tampa Bay Lightning made a big announcement on Tuesday morning, signing forward Brandon Hagel to a long-term contract extension.
Hagel's contract will begin in the 2024-25 campaign, is for eight years and is worth $52 million ($6.5 million AAV).
The 24-year-old was traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning in March 2022 and went on to have the best season of his NHL career so far this past year. In 81 games during the 2022-23 season, Hagel had 64 points (30 goals, 34 assists), 54 penalty minutes and was a plus-23. He followed that up with five points in six Stanley Cup Playoff games.
The closest comparable on to Hagel's AAV on the Canucks is forward Brock Boeser, who's making slightly more at $6.65 million per season, but had almost similar production, with only a nine point difference between the two. As mentioned, Hagel had 64 points in 2022-23, while Boeser had 55 and certainly could eclipse the 60-point mark next year.
