RECENT ADDITION PUSHING RATHBONE BEHIND
Not too long ago, Rathbone was viewed as the team's closest prospect to the NHL; since the new regime took over, they've added Filip Johansson, Akito Hirose, and Cole McWard, who've all stepped over him in the team's depth chart leaving us to wondering where he now stands.
The 24-year-old is at that make-or-break step in his career where he's shown he can excel in the AHL but can't take his game to the big stage. Recently sent through waivers for assignment, it may have marked the end of the long-standing relationship between the two parties.
A TRADE COMING FOR RATHBONE?
The well-connected insider, Rick Dhaliwal, talked about Jack Rathbone's future with the Canucks on the Donnie and Dhali show and confirmed what everybody was thinking:
The Canucks' 4th Round Selection in 2017 could become a trade asset once the season starts if he starts strong in the AHL and NHL teams develop a need for a puck-moving left-handed shot defenseman. For the sake of this youngster's development and future, it may be time the Canucks allow him to play elsewhere.
