The relationship between the Canucks and Elias Pettersson has generated lots of talks. The Canucks' superstar has been eligible for an extension since July 1st and according to every reports, there's been no development since then.

It's quite clear that Pettersson top objective is to win and play meaningful hockey games. And because of his eagerness to win, the belief was that Pettersson could be looking for a short term deal, on me that would align with Hughes' and the results could be catastrophic for the Canucks.

The results of it could be catastrophic for the Canucks, if they end up not being as competitive in three years. They could wind up losing their top two players to free agency.

For the team's sake, they'd be better off signing him to max term and a ton of money. On the other end, if he does sign a shorter term deal, he'll most likely be inking a smaller cap hit deal for that short period of time.
