LATEST | John Tortorella drops a massive statement on Tocchet: It says all you need to know about him
The Flyers and the Canucks are about to square off at the Rogers Arena. This meeting sparks specific memories since a little over 20 years ago, the current Flyers coach, John Tortorella, used to coach Rick Tocchet during their time with the Coyotes.
Both known to wear their hearts on their sleeves, Tortorella recalled a specific interaction he had with Tocchet back in their time with the Coyotes. The anecdote showed why they saw eye to eye and gives how a better outlook on who he was as a player and how it translates into the coach he is today:
"In Arizona, we were going over lines. Tocch was the right winger on a line & he wanted to strangle a player on the line. He didn't think that player was giving it. Never forget that I thought he was going to kill him. That's what I always loved about Tocch."
A story like this shows just how vital accountability was for Tocchet, even when he was a player. Known to be a forward who left it all on the ice back then, he now expects his players to do nothing less. Seeing how the Flyers and the Canucks have been doing this year, I'd say that's a pretty good way to lead your team.
