The Vancouver Canucks took on the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday night in what, on paper, should have been an easy win. However, that's not how things happened.
After the second period, the Canucks were down 4-1, but thanks to a trio of powerplay goals and Brock Boeser completing his hat-trick, the team stormed back to tie things up and force overtime.
In overtime, Boeser picked up his fourth point of the night on a cross-crease pass to Elias Pettersson who put the game to bed, sealing a 5-4 victory for the Vancouver Canucks to wrap up their five-game home stand.
After the game, the National Hockey League's Public Relations account on X, formerly Twitter, shared that not only is Quinn Hughes the first defenceman this season to hit the 60-point mark, he's the third-fastest in history to do so, doing it in 49 games, which ties him with John Carlsson, Ray Bourque and Phil Housley (x2).
During the game, Hughes managed to pick up three assists, which marked the eighth time this season he's reached that mark. In doing so, he's in some pretty elite company, joining Roman Josi, Bobby Orr, Phil Housely and Paul Coffey (x2), for the fourth-most three-assist games in NHL history. Bobby Orr currently hold the NHL record at 13 times in a single season with three-assists in a single game.
