ASTRONOMOUS PRICE TO SHED JUST A LITTLE MONEY OFF THE CAP
The Ottawa Senators are caught in a similar spot. Shane Pinto is still without a contract for next season, and they only have a million left to spend. It's well known that they're actively shopping, and an insider just revealed the price to dump as little as a $3M cap hit.
A well-known NHL correspondent, Anthony Di Marco, revealed that the team was looking for an autonomous price to take on additional salary:
The Canucks have been trying to trade Conor Garland and Tyler Myers for a year or so, and that may point out why they are still in Vancouver. Garland still has three years at a $4.95M cap hit, meaning the cost of moving him would probably be higher than Joseph's. Myers, on the other, carries a $6M cap hit, but only for a year after Pearson was traded alongside a 3rd for a $3.25M cap hit; he'd probably cost a 2nd or a 3rd if the Canucks opted to retain salary.
Now that the Canucks are cap compliant, there is no rush to move either of these players out of town. However, having him around does take away playing time for a younger player, whose role will most likely be more critical moving forward. With that in mind, will Myers see the end of his contract in Vancouver?
