MAJOR | Canucks make an important front office announcement
The Canucks have been known to keep their players around after they've retired from their playing career. Trevor Linden, Henrik and Daniel Sedin or even Stan Smyl.
Over the years, Smyl went from a draft pick, to a cult player, to a team captain and most recently to an important team executive. After 45 years with the Canucks in a full time capacity, the team issued an official statement announcing that Smyl would be taking a step back from his day to day operations with the Club:
''After 45 years as a player, coach, senior manager and leader within the Vancouver Canucks Hockey Operations department, Stan Smyl has decided to transition from his day-to-day duties, but will remain involved with the club.''
Smyl joined the Canucks in 1978, retired in 1991 and never left the team since then. From Assistant Coach, to Head coach, to Senior Advisor, to director of player development and VP of Hockey Operations. There is nothing this man hasn't done for this franchise.
Some will say that Smyl is the team's heart and soul and that is why he is expected to remain close to the team. We, at Canucks Daily, wish nothing but the best to this Canucks legend in the next steps of his career.
