REPORT | Former Canucks goaltender could be done in the NHL as options dwindle
As the summer drags on, the free agent market is still full of talent, but for goaltenders such as former Vancouver Canuck Jaroslav Halak, options are scarce with just under six weeks until training camps open.
In a recent interview with Tomas Prokop in Slovakia, Halak said that he doesn't want to sign with an NHL franchise to be a third-string goaltender as he only wants to sign somewhere where he'll be able to be the full-time backup.
The 38-year-old has had quite the lengthy career thus far, including parts of 17-seasons in the National Hockey League with the Montreal Canadiens, St. Louis Blues, Washington Capitals, New York Islanders, Boston Bruins, Vancouver Canucks and the New York Rangers.
Halak, a native of Bratislava, Slovakia, spent the 2021-22 season in Vancouver after signing a one-year deal with them that summer. In 17 games, he had a record of 4-7-2 with a 2.94 goals against average and .903 save percentage.
