Abbotsford Canucks find out their first round opponent for Playoffs
The Abbotsford Canucks wrapped up the 2023-24 AHL regular season on Saturday night and now know their opponent for the first round of the Calder Cup Playoffs.
With their win on Saturday night over the Calgary Wranglers, the Abbotsford Canucks have set up a first round matchup with the Colorado Eagles, AHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche.
The Canucks and Colorado Eagles met eight times during the 2023-24 campaign with Abbotsford winning the season series with four wins, three losses and one overtime loss.
"The Abby #Canucks and the Colorado Eagles have enjoyed an incredibly spirited season series.
It all began on October 25th, when Keaton Middleton took down Vasily Podkolzin with a late hit.
Well, now they will officially collide in the first round of the AHL playoffs." Dave Hall said in a post on X. Not only did Abbotsford clinch a first round date with the Colorado Eagles, but for now, they also hold home ice advantage for that series. The Eagles, who are fifth place, have one game remaining in the regular season and could tie Abbotsford in the standings.
"With the win tonight, the Baby #Canucks officially hold the fourth spot in the Division (home ice advantage).
Their fate now lies in hands of the Colorado Eagles, who they will play in the first round." Hall said.
It's unclear at this time when Abbotsford's series with the Colorado Eagles will begin, likely because home ice advantage is still to be decided, but the expectation is that it will be at some point next week.
