An announcement has been made involving Canucks captain Quinn Hughes
It's been a pretty big week for Quinn Hughes as he's taken home his first career Norris Trophy and today another significant announcement has been made involving him.
On Friday, the four countries participating in the 4 Nations Face-Off next February - Canada, Finland, Sweden, USA, announced their first six players on their respective rosters for the event.
In a post on social media, USA Hockey announced that Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes is one of their first six players named to the roster. He joins Auston Matthews, Matthew Tkachuk, Adam Fox, Jack Eichel and Charlie McAvoy.
"We're excited about naming the first six players to our roster," said Bill Guerin (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnesota Wild), general manager of Team USA and the president of hockey operations and general manager of the Minnesota Wild. "We have so many great players today in our country playing in the NHL and these first six possess an immense amount of talent and will serve as a solid core for our team."
This will be Quinn Hughes' third time representing the United States at the senior men's level after playing for them at the 2018 and 2019 IIHF World Championships, where he had five assists in 18 games.
"Hughes was the seventh choice of the 2018 NHL Draft. The Vancouver Canucks captain earned the Norris Trophy as the top blueliner in the NHL this season after registering 92 points, tops among defensemen." USA Hockey said in their profile of Hughes.
The Orlando, Florida native had 92 points (17 goals, 75 assists), 38 penalty minutes and was a plus-38 in 81 regular season games with the Canucks and went on to add ten assists in 13 Stanley Cup Playoff contests.
Hughes and Team USA will begin the round robin portion of the schedule on February 13th against Finland. They'll then take on Canada on February 15th before wrapping up the round robin on February 17th against Sweden. The top two teams after the round robin will advance to the final, which will be played on February 20th in Boston.
