The Vancouver Canucks were down and out of giving Brock Boeser a contract extension, with one foot out the door, GM Patrick Allvin came in with a last minute phone call, that altered Boeser's career forever.
A few months later, it's clear Boeser would have been better off going to another team, but there is still a chance to make something out of his career in Vancouver.
"The Vancouver Canucks are not a team short on drama, trading captains like Quinn Hughes and Bo Horvat, coaches like Rick Tocchet not wanting to coach the team anymore, all of which is a good reason for Brock Boeser to regret signing a long term contract with the team."-Stinson
Patrick Allvin is the sole reason Brock Boeser is still a Vancouver Canuck.
David Quadrelli of Canucks Armyshares the details of how the contract extension talks went down. And how it came down to the wire of retaining Boeser. If Boeser had a crystal ball and saw six months into the future, there is no way he would have signed. Unfortunately for him, he is signed with the Canucks until he reaches 33 years old.
"In my head, I think I was fully set on going somewhere else. And so I had kind of a list of teams in my head that I thought maybe would be good fits and and then I just still was kind of uneasy about everything. And then they called, and, you know, at the end of the day, I think my heart was still at Vancouver I was talking to Ben [Hankinson], just kind of going over everythingAnd then he said, Patrik was calling him, and that kind of raised my eyebrows. I was like, 'Okay, maybe we can figure something out here.' And then they kind of went back and forth a little bit, and we found some common ground."-Boeser
With rumours of Elias Pettersson on the trade block as well, it appears that Boeser will be the main leader and face of the team. It would be an opportunity for him to take the young guys under his wing, and try to develop a winning culture. Hopefully it won't be too late in his career by the time the Canucks are ready to win.
