Canucks announce the release of 3 prospects: Including former 1st rounder
With the free agency market finally about to open, it was time for the Canucks' GM Patrik Allvin to submit his qualifying offers for the team's restricted free agents.
The Canucks were facing tough calls with four of their players. One decision came rather easily, the player on top of that list led the team through the majority of the playoffs and showed he belonged in the NHL. Arturs Silovs was obviously qualified by the Canucks and should hear from Allvin rather quickly concerning a contract extension:
General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the #Canucks have extended a qualifying offer to:
- Arturs Silovs
The club did not issue qualifying offers to:
- Aidan McDonough
- Filip Johansson
- Nick Cicek
The club chose to part ways with three prospect. Among them, Aidan McDonough, who the Canucks worked really hard to sign over a year ago, will be headed to free agency looking for a new employer. During his first professional appearance with the Abbotsford Canucks, McDonough scored 11 goals and 19 points in 58 games.
The Minessotta Wild's first round selection in 2018, Filip Johansson signed as a free agent with the Canucks is now headed to free agency.
Nick Cicek is the defenseman the Canucks fetched in return for Jack Studnicka. He'll also be headed to free agency since he did not showcase enough to get re-signed.
