A new report on Friday afternoon has revealed how much money head coach Rick Tocchet is seeking on a new contract from the Vancouver Canucks.

As the Vancouver Canucks' offseason gets underway, the first piece of business Patrik Allvin and the management group have to take care of is either a contract for Rick Tocchet or finding a new head coach.
Earlier this week, Vancouver Canucks President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford shared with reporters that they have submitted a contract offer to Rick Tocchet that would make him the highest paid coach in franchise history.

New details emerge regarding how much money Rick Tocchet is seeking

In an article on ESPN on Friday, Greg Wyshynski revealed that a source informed him that Rick Tocchet may be seeking a five-year contract worth $5 million annually on his next deal.
"An NHL source said Tocchet could be seeking as much as $5 million annually over a five-year term on his next contract." Wyshynski said.

Jim Rutherford and Patrik Allvin are hoping that Rick Tocchet stays with the organization next season and beyond as they believe in the work he's done during his time in Vancouver thus far.
"We believe, and I believe, that Tocc and his coaching staff did as good a job coaching this team this year as they did last year as coach of the year." Rutherford said at Monday's season-ending media availability.

It's not hard to see why Rick Tocchet is seeking a longer term deal and a high dollar figure on his next contract and it all comes back to what he was able to do with the Vancouver Canucks during the 2023-24 season.
Last season, Tocchet took a Vancouver Canucks team that was supposed to be on the bubble for a wild card spot and made them into Pacific Division champions, leading them to one win away from their first Western Conference Final appearance since 2011.
Tocchet was recognized for his work behind the bench last season, becoming just the third Vancouver Canucks head coach in franchise history to win the Jack Adams Award, following in the footsteps of the legendary Pat Quinn and Alain Vigneault.
Whether it's in Vancouver or another team in the National Hockey League, Rick Tocchet is going to get paid and we're going to find out soon where he'll be coaching next season.
