Canucks issue a statement on star goaltender Thatcher Demko
The Vancouver Canucks have made a statement on their social media regarding star goaltender Thatcher Demko and his pursuit of the Vezina Trophy later this week.
With the NHL Awards set for Thursday night in Las Vegas, Vancouver Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko is one of the three finalists for the Vezina Trophy, which is handed out annually to the league's best goaltender.
"A standout year for Thatcher Demko. 👏
With the #Canucks goaltender up for the Vezina Trophy, tune into the NHL Awards on Sportsnet this Thursday, June 27th at 4 PM PT!" The Canucks said.
The Canucks went on to mention the accomplishments that Thatcher Demko achieved during the 2023-24 campaign and has begun to put himself in elite company in franchise history.
"CAREER HIGH - Wins & Shutouts.
35 W, 5 S/O, 2.45 GAA, .918 SV%." The Canucks said.
They also shared where he ranks in team history, "4th all-time franchise wins, 4th best GAA, nine game win streak (ties franchise record), 2nd highest SV%."
Demko, a native of San Diego, California, appeared in 51 games during the regular season for the Canucks where he had a record of 35-14-2 with a 2.45 goals against average, a .918 save percentage and five shutouts. Injuries limited Demko to just one playoff game - Game 1 of their first-round series against the Nashville Predators.
The 28-year-old returned to action in Game 1 against Nashville from a knee issue that kept him out for the previous five weeks, and he looks solid in that contest. However, the day following Game 1, it was announced that Demko had suffered another lower-body injury and missed the remainder of the post-season.
Undoubtedly, Thatcher Demko will bounce back next season from this injury and be one of the top goaltenders in the National Hockey League.
