Following Sunday's Blue vs White scrimmage to wrap up the Penticton portion of training camp, the Vancouver Canucks announce 17 cuts to their roster and among those were four of their 2024 draft picks (Riley Patterson, Parker Alcos, Anthony Romani and Basile Sansonnens), as well as releasing goaltender Dylan Ferguson from his professional tryout.
The big reason for releasing Dylan Ferguson from his professional tryout was because the Canucks signed Kevin Lankinen to a one-year deal for 2024-25 and it gave the 26-year-old an opportunity to find a new team before the season began. The Canucks will be rolling with Arturs Silovs and Kevin Lankinen to start the season, with Thatcher Demko on the shelf with an injury, while in the American Hockey League with Abbotsford, Jiri Patera and Nikita Tolopilo will likely share the starting duties.
On Tuesday, Ferguson found his new team, signing a one-year deal with the American Hockey League's Iowa Wild, affiliate of the Minnesota Wild. Ferguson will be in tough as he competes for game time along with Samuel Hlavaj and Kyle McClellan.
Ferguson, a native of Lantzville, British Columbia, spent the 2023-24 season in the Kontinental Hockey League with the lone Belarusian team, Dynamo Minsk. He shared the crease in Minsk with Philadelphia Flyers prospect Alexei Kolosov, who got the majority of the starts for the club.
In 22 games for Dynamo Minsk, Ferguson had a record of 9-9-0 with a 2.51 goals against average and a .904 save percentage.
