Elias Pettersson and other members of the Vancouver Canucks have spoken about J.T. Miller's first game back at Rogers Arena since being traded in late-January.

The Vancouver Canucks will wrap up a three-game homestand tonight as J.T. Miller and the New York Rangers make their only trip to British Columbia this season.
Tuesday night's game marks the first time that J.T. Miller is back in Vancouver to face the Canucks following his trade to the New York Rangers in January that saw Patrik Allvin acquire Victor Mancini and Filip Chytil.
His final few months as a Vancouver Canuck was marred by an alleged feud with his now ex-teammate Elias Pettersson, something former Head Coach Rick Tocchet spoke about as the 2024-25 season came to a close.
"We had a really good year the year before and they had really good years. So you never think it's, the smouldering is going to turn up. Did it get uncomfortable? Yeah. A lot of meetings, a lot of things. Could've something been different? You know, I hear people on the sidelines 'If I was coaching or I was...they've got to go to dinner and they've got to fight it out'. I mean, you don't think we've tried all that stuff? It just didn't work out. I know everybody is looking for a bad guy. I don't think there was a bad guy in the thing. It just didn't work out. At that point, it needed to be resolved and like Jim said, that's what happened. It's unfortunate because would I not want J.T. Miller in my lineup? 100 percent. But at that time, it just could not work." Tocchet said.

Elias Pettersson & members of the Vancouver Canucks speak ahead of J.T. Miller's return

In a video produced by Sportsnet ahead of tonight's game, members of the Vancouver Canucks, including Elias Pettersson, Tyler Myers, Brock Boeser and Conor Garland, spoke about J.T. Miller, their difficult 2024-25 season amid the feud and gave their thoughts as he returns to Rogers Arena this evening.
"Obviously last year was a different year." Brock Boeser said. "He's not afraid to voice his opinion on things. He's obviously a tough player to replace, he's an unbelievable player and a void that's hard to fill."

"Obviously there was some things going on, but it wasn't as big as it was made out to be." Tyler Myers said. He's a guy who always wore his heart on his sleeve. When he was having a good day, you knew it, when he was having a bad day, you knew it. To come together as a group, you can't hold anything in, you got to air things out. There's going to be noise with anything, positive or negative. We just have to realize that, you know, if anything goes on throughout a year, that we're still brothers and we're all still fighting for the same goal."

"Obviously we're not happy with how it went, but that was in the past and we can only learn from it." Elias Pettersson said.

"Millsy's no longer a teammate, so you know, to me he's just a good friend." Conor Garland said. "We're off of last year, we've already moved on. He's in New York, we're in Vancouver. It'll be nice to see him when we play him, but besides that, we're on about our team."

Now that the day is here, J.T. Miller first game back in Vancouver, Canucks forward Elias Pettersson was asked about his former teammate and didn't seem too interested in talking about the 32-year-old, and said the following, according to Vince Z. Mercogliano of The Athletic:
"Elias Pettersson wasn't in the mood to entertain J.T. Miller questions from local media. When asked about facing him tonight, he deadpanned, «I played against him last year, too» and left it at that. Didn't bite much on follow-ups, either. Definitely felt like a touchy subject." Mercogliano said.
Puck drop for tonight's game against J.T. Miller and the New York Rangers is set for 7 p.m. PT on Sportsnet Pacific.
