Ex-Vancouver Canuck Forward Set for NHL Return This Offseason After Shattering KHL's Single-Season Goal Record
In some pretty surprising news, former Vancouver Canucks forward Josh Leivo has done the impossible and has broken the single season goal record in the KHL playing for the Salavat Yulaev Ufa.
Over a 265 game career in the NHL, spanning 10 years, after playing 87 games for the Toronto Maple Leafs, he scored only 13 goals and 13 assists, which eventually found him getting moved to our Vancouver Canucks.
Now, he has found a new home over in Russia.
Josh Leivo breaks KHL's single season goal record
Out of nowhere he became KHL's best goal scorer netting goals with an insane this 0.74 goals per game average.
Even at that historic pace, which was unlikely to be held up for the remaining games of the season, it was still a slim chance that he was going to break Sergei Mozyakin's goal record, which was set during the 2016-17 season, scoring 48.
But to everyone's surprise, he actually elevated his production in the second half.
He not only smashed the goal record by netting his 49th of the season, he also is the leagues leading scorer, adding 31 assists to accumulate 80 points in 62 games.
In his 265 game NHL career, Leivo played 85 of them with our Vancouver Canucks, arriving during the 2018-2019 season after being traded by the Toronto Maple Leafs for
Michael Carcone.
Leivo recorded just 17 goals and 37 points during his time in here before signing with the Calgary Flames in the 2020 offseason.
After jumping around the league he ultimately made the decision to head overseas and play in Russia for the Salavat Yulaev Ufa of the KHL, where he as clearly found his game.
With a historic season like this, it would not come to the surprise of the fans that NHL general managers will be lining up to try and acquire him.
