After sitting out last season following a failed professional tryout with the Boston Bruins, former Vancouver Canucks forward Alex Chiasson is looking to return to game action in the National Hockey League and will do so on another PTO.
On Wednesday, the Detroit Red Wings announced their 68-man training camp roster and among those listed was Alex Chiasson, on a professional tryout.
Chiasson, 33, last played during the 2022-23 season with the Detroit Red Wings and their American Hockey League affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins. In 29 games with Grand Rapids, Chiasson had 20 points (nine goals, 11 assists), while in 20 games with Detroit, he registered nine points (six goals, three assists).
The former Stanley Cup champion spent one season with the Vancouver Canucks, that came in 2021-22, where he appeared in 67 games and put up 22 points (13 goals, nine assists), 24 penalty minutes and was a plus-five.
It's going to be interesting to see if Chiasson is able to land a contract for the 2024-25 season, despite being on the sidelines last season. If he performs well enough and the Red Wings want to bring him aboard, it's likely his potential contract could be a one-year, two-way deal at league minimum.
