A former Vancouver Canuck defenseman believes that the team will be alright without getting a second line centerman before training camp.

After striking out on a few attempts to land another centerman to the fold this summer, the Vancouver Canucks are prepared and even comfortable beginning the season with who they have now, meaning that Filip Chytil will be slotted into the 2C hole on opening night against the Calgary Flames.
It's going to be a big opportunity for Chytil, who is now back at 100 percent health after a concussion in March and he's been preparing for it all summer long, telling the 100% Canucks Podcast recently that he's been working on shot and wants to contribute more in the goal scoring department in his first full season as a Vancouver Canuck.
"I love to score goals and I know I can score a lot more than I'm scoring now, or even what my best season was. So we're working with my skill coach around the net a lot. Working on my shot. Working on one-timers. This is the thing that I'm working on the most. Of course we're working on my edges - doing puck-handling. The thing I love the most is just shooting. I know there is so much room what to work on and so much room how to get better. Even the top players work on their shot all the time. I love to score goals and I need to score more." Chytil said.

Former Vancouver Canuck believes team will be fine with Filip Chytil as their 2C

Earlier this week, former Vancouver Canucks defenseman Frank Corrado was a guest on Sekeres and Price where he talked about the team's offseason up to this point and the moves Patrik Allvin has and hasn't made.
Corrado says that the team doesn't necessarily need to add a second line centerman before training camp begins on September 18th and that they could do a lot worse than having Filip Chytil in that role to start the 2025-26 season.
"You don't put yourself into this desperation mode just to make a trade to say we've acquired a second line center and it's not the right fit for the long-term. Like you're going to let this play out, you'll make the right move at the right time if it presents itself where you're going to seek it out and full well knowing what you just said there. You have a good base of goaltending. If the right guys are healthy and doing the right things, you should be able to get some offense. You have some good defensive players, you have some guys that can play on the penalty kill, you should have a pretty good power play, Brock Boeser is coming back, he's a big part of that." Corrado said.

He added, "So with all the moving parts around that one thing, that one thing first of all isn't that bad that's going to sink your lineup. I'm sorry, you could do a lot worse than having Filip Chytil as a second line center."
With the reported asking price for some legit second line center options, like Mason McTavish, astronomically high at the moment, Patrik Allvin and the Canucks' management should be patient and if having Filip Chytil as their 2C doesn't end up working, they can re-evaluate their options at that time and perhaps by then, prices will have dropped around the NHL.
