Former Vancouver Canucks forward Danton Heinen has been traded by the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday, 24 hours after the club placed him on the NHL's waiver wire.
With the National Hockey League's roster freeze coming to a close on Sunday, the waiver wire was very active as a pair of former Vancouver Canucks were among those waived including forward Danton Heinen of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
"Forward Blake Lizotte has been activated from Injured Reserve.
Forward Danton Heinen will be placed on waivers at 2:00 PM ET and designated non-roster." the Penguins said on X on Sunday.

In a press release on Monday afternoon, the Columbus Blue Jackets announced that they've acquired Danton Heinen, as well as a pair of draft picks - 2026 second round & 2027 third round - from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Russian forward Yegor Chinakhov.
"This trade provides us with additional draft capital over the next two years and a good two-way player in Danton Heinen that will add to our organizational depth at the forward position.
With regard to Yegor, we believe a change of scenery was in the best interests of both he and the club and we thank him for his contributions over the past five seasons." Blue Jackets General Manager Don Waddell said.

Heinen, 30, was signed by Patrik Allvin in the summer of 2024 as an unrestricted free agent and brought some versatility to the lineup with his ability to play in the top or bottom-six, but his time in the Lower Mainland came to a close in January as the Vancouver Canucks traded him to the Pittsburgh Penguins as part of the deal that saw them land defenseman Marcus Pettersson and Drew O'Connor.
The Langley, British Columbia native has split time this season between Pittsburgh and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton with two points in 13 games at the NHL level and 17 points (six goals, 11 assists) in 12 games in the AHL.
Heinen will likely make his debut with the Columbus Blue Jackets, the sixth team of his NHL career thus far, on Wednesday night as they host the New Jersey Devils.
