The Vancouver Canucks organization is receiving more backlash after news broke earlier this month that their AHL affiliate still haven't got their Calder Cup rings.
Back in June, the Abbotsford Canucks reached the top of the American Hockey League as for the first time in franchise history, they won the Calder Cup.
"THE ABBOTSFORD CANUCKS ARE THE 2025 CALDER CUP CHAMPS!" Canucks Army said on X earlier this year.
After winning it all in the spring, the Abbotsford Canucks are struggling this season as they sit 30th in the American Hockey League's overall standings with an 8-16-3-3 record through 30 games and off the ice, there's been some drama too.
Vancouver Canucks organization receiving more backlash for Calder Cup ring fiasco
Less than two weeks ago, a report came out from Rick Dhaliwal of Donnie & Dhali who revealed that the Abbotsford Canucks have yet to receive their Calder Cup rings, something that should've happened months ago.
"Also, not sure why, it's almost Christmas, and the Abbotsford players still have not received their Championship rings from winning the Calder Cup last year. You would think that would have been done by now. What the hell is going on there? Get those guys their rings. They deserve it for winning the Calder Cup." Dhaliwal said.
There are rumors suggesting that the players could receive those rings at some point in January, but nothing has been confirmed just yet and the organization is getting more backlash for the whole fiasco.
During a recent appearance on Sekeres and Price, Patrick Johnston of The Province spoke about the Calder Cup ring situation and how it isn't a great look for the organization as a whole.
"Ben's point is that the tradition generally is if you were, whether it's a public ceremony or a private ceremony, some teams just do something in private because there's not a lot of guys left over from the previous season and they've got to chase people, is you either do it at the season opener or you do it very early in the year. So the idea that you're going to oh have a surprise moment and not tell anybody, I mean that just defies expectation, defies how people are, defies reality." Johnston said.
He added, "It was such a case of, as I wrote in thing, I open with Ebenezer Scrooge correctly because you need to learn about how to treat people right and this is an ongoing issue here. Which is that fundamentally, you know a lack of care for the people that do the work and as I've said before the number of people that I talk to who leave that organization now and are happier when they've left is unsettling. It should tell you everything."

Hopefully for the sake of the players, coaches and those behind the scenes, all of whom put in a ton of work for last season's championship, they'll receive those well deserved Calder Cup rings early in 2026.
