Former Vancouver Head Coach Travis Green Opens Up On Issues Facing the Canucks
On Friday's edition of Donnie and Dhali, former Canucks head coach Travis Green joined the show as the Ottawa Senators prepared to face the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena.
Green, who coached the Canucks for four-and-a-half seasons, shared his unique perspective on the team and life in Vancouver's intense hockey market.
Rick Dhaliwal didn't hold back, diving straight into the hot topic of Rick Tocchet's tenure as head coach.
«You know this market better than anyone,» Dhaliwal said, «there's been a lot of heat on Rick Tocchet. Your thoughts on the Canucks?»
Green chuckled before responding,
«I don't know if there should be much heat on Rick. Their team's still having a pretty good year, gone through a lot of adversity.»
His measured response reflects the perspective of someone who's been in Tocchet's shoes, navigating the relentless scrutiny that comes with coaching in Vancouver.
The conversation also shifted to the remarkable play of Quinn Hughes, a player Green had the privilege of coaching early in the defenseman's career.
Hughes has elevated his game to superstar status, drawing league-wide praise. «It's not surprising,» Green remarked, reflecting on Hughes' work ethic and talent.
«Even as a young player coming into the league, you could see the potential was there. He's taken it to another level now.»
Green's appearance highlighted his continued connection to the game and the Canucks, even after his departure.
His insights offered a refreshing perspective on the challenges and expectations faced by those in Vancouver's hockey spotlight.
As the Canucks continue their season, facing ups and downs, Green's words serve as a reminder of the pressure-cooker environment of Vancouver hockey.
But, as he pointed out, the team's success amid adversity-and the rise of players like Hughes-shouldn't go unnoticed.
