Hockey Canada Names 2025 World Junior Roster: Great News for Sawyer Mynio
The 2025 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship is set to get underway in less than two weeks and each of the ten participating nations are finalizing their rosters for the tournament.
For Hockey Canada, they made their cuts on Friday afternoon following a pair of games with the U-Sports All-Stars, a team consisting of players from Canadian universities who used to play in the CHL.
It was a good test for this Canadian squad as they were down 2-1 after two periods in Thursday's game, rattling off four goals in the final frame to win 5-2.
Friday's game was even tighter, with Canada pulling out a 2-1 win thanks to a goal from Nashville Predators prospect Matthew Wood nearly half-way through the third period.
Sawyer Mynio earns spot on Canada's final roster for 2025 World Juniors
On Friday evening, Hockey Canada announced their 25-man roster for the 2025 World Juniors and it included Vancouver Canucks prospect Sawyer Mynio.
The 2025 World Juniors marks Sawyer Mynio's first appearance at a IIHF event or any tournament for that matter, besides the Summer Showcase, with Hockey Canada.
Among other notable names on Canada's roster are Gavin McKenna (2026), Porter Martone (2025), Easton Cowan (TOR), Brayden Yager (WPG), Jett Luchanko (PHI), Sam Dickinson (SJ), and Matthew Schaefer (2025), among others.
There were some tough cuts for Hockey Canada as well including 2024 third overall pick Beckett Sennecke and 2024 ninth overall pick Zayne Parekh.
"This group of 25 players is excited for the opportunity to wear the Maple Leaf in front of Canadian fans in Ottawa, and to represent their country in our quest to win a gold medal. This is a great accomplishment for these players and their families, and we know they will enjoy the World Juniors experience while bringing the competitiveness needed for us to be successful and accomplish our goal." Head Coach Dave Cameron said. Canada will play three pre-tournament games - December 19th vs Switzerland, December 21st vs Sweden and December 23rd vs Czechia before they begin the 2025 World Juniors with a Boxing Day clash against Finland.
