It Is Now Known Where the Vancouver Canucks' New Practice Facility is Going to Be

With the Vancouver Canucks being the only team in the National Hockey League without a dedicated practice facility, President of Hockey Operation Jim Rutherford issued some very promising details about their future arena.
Instead of taking part in the norm of professional sports teams, the Vancouver Canucks have been an outlier, deciding to save money on renovations, rent and land, Owner Francesco Aquilini has them practicing at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre in the University of British Columbia.
The Canucks' lack of a dedicated practice/training facility has been a major point contestation with fans, media and players who have criticized the fact of how much an inconvenience and disadvantage it is.

The point where the hammer met the nail was when head coach Rick Tocchet openly admitted that a strong reason for his departure from the Canucks was due to not having a practice facility and the same resources of other NHL clubs.
After years of criticism and noise around the subject, Canucks owner Francesco Aquilini has decided that enough was enough and will be giving into the demands of players and fans.
Things do seem to be moving in the right direction as President of Hockey Ops Jim Rutherford gave a positive update on the team's efforts to build a practice rink and even went as far to saying how far the facility should be.
«We're open to any area within a half-hour drive of downtown Vancouver,» Rutherford said. «Since I've been here, we've worked on this, and we've come close to a point where we could get one, but there is always political reasons or this and that.
«I've been pushed hard by Francesco [Aquilini], our owner, to figure this out. I do think we have a few options that we actually have a chance of moving forward.»

Although it is not confirmed when and where the new rink will be located, with Rutherford's recent statement, you can believe it will be a lot more convenient and professional for an NHL team and its players.
