As it stands, the Canucks are off to a terrible start to the season going 0-1-2, although early and only three games in, their record showcases the exact level of effort and willingness to win.
J.T. Miller & captain Quinn Hughes demand urgency when adressing the media
After practice yesterday (October 16th) and dropping their first road game of the season to the
Philadelphia Flyers, the two biggest leaders on the team decided to address the media and dive into what needs to improve.
Miller spoke about what some of the issues the team is having and also what he wants to see out of the Canucks moving forward. He wants urgency and high level of competitiveness, especially if they want to win against the Florida Panthers.
We talked a lot about building a standard, and right now, we are not playing up to that. It is hardly X's & O's, but urgency and determination. We are playing like it summer right now
It is supposed to be hard and we should enjoy that challenge, but we are playing like we want it to be an easy night. "Got to get back to our identity which is straight lines, good forecheck, moving our feet, hitting guys, supporting each other on defence.»
Captain Quinn Hughes was a little less vocal and detailed in his answers to the media, but you can tell by his body language and tone that the frustration is mounting. He did put emphasis that this is only 3 games into the season.
«We had a really good practice today and focused on some of the things that will help us tomorrow."
Hopefully the team can out these comments into action as they face the powerhouse reigning Stanley Cup Champions in Florida tonight (October 17th).
