LATEST | Canucks' frustrated in the Elias Pettersson extension talks: It's getting messy
Things are getting tense for fans of the Vancouver Canucks as forward and pending restricted free agent Elias Pettersson remains without a contract extension.
Pettersson said before the 2023-24 season began that he wanted to wait before putting pen to paper on a new contract so he could focus his play on the ice.
Recently, it was reported that the Vancouver Canucks have offered Elias Pettersson an eight-year contract extension with an average annual value (AAV) of $12 million. While Pettersson hasn't turned it down, it has caused some concern that he still hasn't signed an extension and, frankly, has begun to cause a bit of frustration.
During Tuesday's edition of Halford & Brough, they mentioned that a source has told them that the Vancouver Canucks are very frustrated that Elias Pettersson won't come to the table to talk about a new contract.
"I asked someone a lot more dialled in than me yesterday - how frustrated are the #Canucks that Petey won't even come to the table? The answer was 'Very'."
There's still plenty of time to get a contract done, and it's looking like it'll have to wait until the 2023-24 season concludes, one which the Canucks and Pettersson hope will end with a Stanley Cup championship.
