Chris Tanev may not currently be a Vancouver Canuck, but according to Insider Rick Dhaliwal, both the player and the team wanted him to.

On Sportsnet 650's Halford and Brough show, Dhaliwal said the Canucks felt like they had a better offer on the table for Tanev, but Conroy and the Flames balked at making yet another deal with Vancouver.

They felt they had a better offer on the table than Dallas... Calgary's already given Lindholm and Zadorov to Vancouver, I don't think they want to give all three guys to Vancouver,

Dhaliwal added that Tanev still loves Vancouver, and it was the number one place he wanted to be dealt to.

He says the Stars are going to take a serious run at resigning Tanev, but he believes Vancouver could remain his number one preferred destination and Dallas would be required to overpay.

If he resigns in Dallas, it'll have to be a really good number.

The Stars will make a push to keep him, but if he makes it to July 1, you can bet Allvin and the Canucks will make a call.
