Elias Pettersson has been at the very forefront of rumours amongst the NHL in recent days, from stalling contract negotiations to a trade offer from the Carolina Hurricanes involving young budding stars such as Martin Necas and Jesperi Kotkaniemi to now progressing contract talks.

It's been a whirlwind of a week for Pettersson and the Canucks, as the team has dropped six of their last seven games and has fallen from first in the NHL down to fourth. They hold a two-point lead over Dallas for first in the Western Conference. Pettersson remains in the spotlight as the team struggles due to his ongoing contract situation.
According to Elliotte Friedman on the 32 Thoughts Podcast, several of Pettersson's teammates were surprised at the revelation that he was considering extending with the club.
Pettersson, 25, ranks second on the Canucks with 75 points (behind J.T. Miller with 82) and 10th overall in the NHL.
