The Canucks acquired the league's biggest trade bait in early February when they won the Elias Lindholm derby. Also viewed as one of, if not the biggest, upcoming unrestricted free agents, there's been lots of speculation regarding Lindholm's next contract's value.

There's been lots of talks around Lindholm and the Canucks, and everything points toward both parties parting ways at the end of the season. The early reports suggested that Lindholm had turned down an 8-year and $72M ($9M AAV), but Frank Seravalli was on Sekeres and Price earlier today with an essential update.

According to his sources, his number has now gone down to $7.5M:

@frank_seravalli on Elias Lindholm's injury & next contract:

"There's some concern from the #Canucks end...if it is a nagging thing, hold him out as long as necessary...he's closer to $7.5M than he is $9M."

Lindholm, who will turn 30 in December, is reportedly looking for an eight-year deal. It's hard to believe that Allvin and the Canucks would even consider signing another aging player until his late 30s.

With 9 points through 22 games, the offence Lindholm has showcased with the Canucks is nowhere near what you'd expect from a $7.5M player. If we were to accept $7.5M through the next five years, would that be something more appropriate for the Canucks?
