German forward Lukas Reichel revealed recently how he found out about being traded by the Chicago Blackhawks to the Vancouver Canucks on Friday afternoon.

After weeks of searching for forward help, Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin was finally able to complete a trade with the Chicago Blackhawks for Lukas Reichel, who was being shopped by his now-former club.
The Canucks General Manager was very happy that they were able to get the deal over the finish line on Friday, bringing the former first round pick to the Lower Mainland.
"I was fortunate to see him play in Berlin in his draft year [and I] appreciated his competitiveness, his skill set, and his ability to skate. Over time, you've been waiting to see if this guy would be able to take it to the next level and establish himself as an NHL player. It's been like for most of the young players, a little bit of an up and down, until you establish yourselves. But you can see the skill set; you can see the speed in his game," Allvin said.

He added, "Obviously we liked him as a person and character too. So, we're excited to get him in here and continue to work with him."

When meeting with reporters this weekend, newly acquired Lukas Reichel revealed that he was out with teammates on Friday shopping for Halloween costumes when he got a call informing him of his trade to the Vancouver Canucks.
"We had a Halloween party in Chicago. I was with [Teuvo] Teravainen, we were at the store trying to find something for a costume for the night." Reichel said.

He added, "We grabbed some food, and I got the call at the Portillo's in the parking lot. I drove home really quick, grabbed my stuff - as much as I could find at home. I probably left so much stuff there. It doesn't matter. I'm just happy to be here now.

It was really quick, everything. I just can't wait to settle in a little bit and have a couple of practices and games in here. Then, I'll probably feel more comfortable."

Reichel, a native of Nuremberg, Germany, was selected 17th overall by Chicago back in 2020, but hasn't lived up to expectations in the National Hockey League and it was clear that he needed a fresh start.
The 23-year-old is in the final year of his contract where he's earning $1.2 million US and is set to become a restricted free agent next summer.
Reichel's age fits in quite well with some of the younger pieces Vancouver has in their system including Braeden Cootes (18), Tom Willander (20), Jonathan Lekkerimaki (21), Aatu Raty (22), Elias Pettersson (21) and Victor Mancini (23), all of whom are poised to form the next core of Canucks hockey.
