New York Rangers Forward Mika Zibanejad Reportedly Not Interested in Playing for Vancouver Canucks
The Vancouver Canucks may have shot down a trade offer from the New York Rangers recently, but it appears they may not have had a choice.
This past week, it was revealed by Josh Yohe of The Athletic that the New York Rangers offered Mika Zibanejad to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for J.T. Miller, but the move was shot down by General Manager Patrik Allvin.
Elliotte Friedman shared on the 32 Thoughts podcast why the trade fell through and added that the Canucks were trying to get the Rangers to add 23-year-old Braden Schneider to the deal, but that attempt was rejected.
"You'll remember that when Miller took his mental health break, the Rangers, who covet the player, were in Vancouver. From what I understand, they approached the Canucks to discuss what something could look like, and Zibanejad was included in the conversation. I don't know that Zibanejad, who has a no-move clause, was ever approached. I asked at the time and did not receive a clear answer. I also think it was actually a bigger deal, and one of the issues is that Vancouver adores Braden Schneider, who the Rangers do not want to trade. This would be the second time New York has rejected a Vancouver attempt for him." Friedman said.
It's been a struggle this season for Mika Zibanejad as he's recorded just eight goals through 41 games with the Rangers and as Chris Drury looks at all his options, it appears that the Swedish forward didn't want to come to Vancouver.
Insider says Mika Zibanejad didn't want to come to Vancouver
During the Real Kyper and Bourne podcast this week, former NHLer Nick Kypreos shared that at this time, Mika Zibanejad doesn't want to play in Vancouver.
"Everyone's got a right to change their minds and there could be more pressure points in various ways, but as of today, I'm told that Zibanejad does not want to go from the #NYR to the #Canucks." Nick Kypreos said.
We'll have to wait and see what the trade deadline has in store for Patrik Allvin and the Vancouver Canucks. If the team starts picking up their play in the coming weeks, they could end up being aggressive buyers on the market closer to March 7th.
