NHL Insider Gives Big Update Regarding the Vancouver Canucks & the Trade Market
A National Hockey League insider gave a big update this week regarding the Vancouver Canucks & the trade market leading ahead of the 2025-26 season.
The Vancouver Canucks haven't been shy when it comes to being aggressive on the trade market, as Patrik Allvin has typically taken a proactive approach when trying to improve his roster, as he did earlier this summer when he
acquired Evander Kane from the Edmonton Oilers.
Vancouver's roster certainly isn't perfect and if the team is going to make a push towards a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs or even win a round or two if they get to the big dance, then they're going to need to make another big addition leading up to the trade deadline, perhaps even a second line centerman
after being unable to find one during the offseason.
"I think the Canucks certainly tried to, you know, comb the market and see what was out there in terms of the center position. I just don't think they got close on anything." David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period said.
NHL insider gives big update regarding Vancouver Canucks & NHL's trade market
In a recent article for The Athletic, NHL insider Thomas Drance revealed that sources say Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin is quite active in trade talks this week leading up to the opening night roster submission deadline, which is set for 2 p.m. PT on Monday.
"Indeed, in checking into the Canucks' priorities this week, we weren't surprised to hear that Allvin is active in trade discussions as the start of the regular season approaches. Senior team officials cautioned, however, that it's difficult to gauge whether the Canucks will be able to accomplish the sort of trade they're looking for prior to setting their 23-man opening-day roster early next week." Drance said.
Drance later went on to say that the Canucks are still searching for what they have been all summer long - a second line centerman, or at least someone that is better than the average third line centerman that may have to play that 3C role in Vancouver.
He added that right now, the Vancouver Canucks are weighing the possibility of making a significant trade that would involve the club from parting with some young players that they really like, but didn't reveal who those players might be, understandably.
"What the Canucks are shopping for is unchanged from this summer: an impact centre. Ideally, a second-line calibre player, but an above-average third-line centre would potentially do as well." Drance said.
He went on to add, "What the Canucks are really working through in trade talks at the moment is the process of weighing the complexities of making an all-in move, potentially at the expense of trading some of the young players that the organization is excited about and who seem to be on the verge of making an impact at the NHL level."
Patrik Allvin has been active on the trade market leading up to opening night in past years too, including in 2024 when he
landed Erik Brannstrom in a deal with the Colorado Avalanche, so it's entirely possible that we see him complete another move this time around, but hopefully, it's for someone that'll end up making a big impact on the NHL roster.
