An NHL insider says that a decision on Rick Tocchet's future behind the bench with the Vancouver Canucks is expected to come quickly once the season concludes.

A few weeks ago, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported that the Vancouver Canucks made a contract offer to head coach Rick Tocchet that would've kept him around next season and beyond, but the deal wasn't accepted.
With Vancouver's season coming to an end on Wednesday after missing out on the Stanley Cup Playoffs, it looks like there could be some clarity relatively soon on the future of Rick Tocchet with the Canucks.

Elliotte Friedman gives update on Rick Tocchet's future with Vancouver Canucks

During the Saturday Headlines segment of Hockey Night in Canada, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman reported that the Vancouver Canucks and Rick Tocchet are not wanting this situation to drag out until the summer.
He went on to add that a decision on Rick Tocchet's future, whether he's staying under his team option or contract extension or if he leaves the organization, should come pretty quickly once Vancouver's regular season schedule concludes.
"The one thing I do believe is nobody - not Tocchet, not the Canucks - want this to drag into the end of the season, after the end of the season, too long into the summer, I think you're going to see how this is going to work out come down pretty quickly at the end of the season." Friedman said.

Tocchet, 61, is in his second full season behind the bench in Vancouver and third in total after being hired by the organization as Bruce Boudreau's replacement in January of 2023.
In his time with the Canucks, Tocchet has led the team to a Pacific Division title, which came last year and were just one win away from their first appearance in the Western Conference Final since 2011.
The Scarborough, Ontario native earned his first Jack Adams Award last season as the best coach in the National Hockey League and in 198 games with Vancouver, has a record of 107-64-27.
It's going to be interesting to see where things go in the coming weeks and if Rick Tocchet and the Vancouver Canucks can agree on a vision for the future, then a contract extension is likely. Otherwise, Wednesday's game could be Tocchet's last behind the home bench at Rogers Arena.
