NHL issues a statement on Canucks captain Quinn Hughes
The Canucks named Quinn Hughes their captain earlier this year. Since then, he's taken his whole game to a new level. Known to be an offensively gifted defenseman, he improved every other aspect of his game to ensure he'd be known as an elite two-way defender. The season he's been having is proof of the commitment he made.
The NHL issued an in-game statement during the Canucks' game against the Golden Knights. The Canucks captain led the power play to two goals as he assisted on the first one and scored the one. Hughes now counts 40 multi-point periods, but he's also tied Henrik Sedin for the third most assists in a season in Franchise history with 71.
Quinn Hughes collected an assist and then a goal for his 40th career multi-point period 10 more than the next closest @Canucks defenseman: Jyrki Lumme (30).
Quinn Hughes tied Henrik Sedin (71 in 2006-07) for the third-most assists in a season in club history. Sedin also holds the top-two marks (83 in 2009-10 & 75 in 2010-11).
Through 77 games, a period and a half, Quinn Hughes counts 86 points. Personal high and franchise high for a defenceman, amongst the team's best in differential, Hughes is making a statement about where he belongs in the league's standing. Over the last few days, there have been heated debates over who had the most Norris-worthy season; as we head to the playoffs, the choice is only getting easier.
