NHL issues a statement on Canucks rookie netminder Arturs Silovs
The Canucks finally overcame the Predators with a 1-0 win that gave them their ticket to the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs' second round. While both teams were solid defensively, Elias Pettersson, Brock Boeser and Pius Suter found a way to breakthrough their defence while Arturs Silovs kept the door shut and registered his first career post-season shutout.
With his outstanding performance, the Latvian became the youngest goalie in franchise history to record a playoff shutout. While the setup may not have been ideal with Thatcher Demko sidelined, Silovs proved that he was better suited for the job then Casey DeSmith with solid netminding performances. The Canucks issued the following statement on his behalf:
Love a good Arty Party 🎉
Youngest #Canucks goalie to record playoff shutout in franchise history.
To top it all, Silovs became the 14th goaltender in NHL history to shut out his opponent in a series-clinching game. A list holding prestigious names of the goaltending community like a certain Carey Price:
Arturs Silovs (23 years, 42 days) stopped all 27 shots he faced and became the youngest goaltender in @Canucks history to post a shutout in the #StanleyCup Playoffs.
Silovs' sturdy resume speaks for itself; following his performance at the 2023 World Championship and the way he's been handling himself in the past 3 games is a strong indication of his poise, confidence and ability to handle pressure. The Canucks will now have a much bigger offensive threat at hand as they'll be facing the Oilers in the second round, will Silovs be able to hold the fort down for four more wins? The fans at the Rogers Arena seem to think so.
