Patrik Allvin announces the signing of a six foot seven giant on free agency
Patrik Allvin had his busiest day of the year as he added nothing less then what could be five players playing on their NHL roster in the upcoming season.
The Canucks started off hot with the addition of Jake Debrusk, the top six winger everybody expected. After adding Kiefer Sherwood, Danton Heinen and Derek Forbort, Patrik Allvin announced that the Canucks had signed the six foot seven defenceman that played for the Oilers, Vincent Desharnais:
Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the club has agreed to terms with defenceman Vincent Desharnais on a 2-year contract with a $2M AAV.
Desharnais, 28, had been with the Oilers for the better parts of the last two seasons. A late bloomer, he only made his NHL debut last season and hasn't seen the AHL since. With only 114 NHL regular season games, there is still lots of place for growth in his game and Allvin hopes the current staff will help him reach the next level.
With this addition, the Canucks d-core will most likely be looking like this at their opening game:
Hughes-Hronek
Soucy-Myers
Forbort-Desharnais
Juulsen
Big, physically imposant, they'll definitely be a tough defensive corpse to play against. With Tocchet's system, Foote and Gonchar's wisdom, and Thatcher Demko's prowess, the Canucks are bound to be one of the NHL's top defensive team.
