Patrik Allvin surprises and announces $9M extension for Tyler Myers
The Vancouver Canucks are continuing to get their business done ahead of the NHL Entry Draft, on Thursday locking up one of the longest serving members of the organization.
General Manager Patrik Allvin announced on Thursday that the team had agreed to terms on a 3 year contract with defenceman Tyler Myers, just days before he was set to become an unrestricted free agent.
Myers will earn $3 million per year, half of what he was making on his previous contract, and will be with the Canucks through the 2026-27 season when he is 37.
The 6'8 veteran has been considered one of the most overpaid players in the league for the majority of his five seasons with Vancouver, but last season he played excellent hockey for the Canucks in more of a depth role, a role he'll expect to continue in going forward.
Myers also gets a no-move clause, and a 12 team no-trade list in the final year of the deal.
He's currently the fourth highest paid defenceman on the Canucks roster, although the team is still believed to be negotiating with Nikita Zadorov.
After this new deal, the Canucks project to have roughly $14.5 million in cap space to work with.
