Patrik Allvin & The Vancouver Canucks Will Regret Signing Jake DeBrusk - Here's Why
Vancouver Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin made a slew of trades and acquisitions this offseason, and most of them have played a major part in the team getting off to a great start, but there is one signing that will come back to haunt them.
After the team announced a few days ago that they traded forward Daniel Sprong to the Seattle Kraken for basically "nothing" after singing him in the offseason, it has started the conversation if Patrik Allvin and the Canucks made any other bad signings, and there is one that comes right to mind.
Vancouver Canucks Signing Jake DeBrusk will turn out to be a mistake
Jake DeBrusk's contract may not show itself to be a mistake right mow, or even in the immediate future, but at some point over the 7 years, his deal will start to show his age.
Before the Edmonton Oilers, DeBrusk scored a goal in his last three consecutive games, but ahead of that, it had not been as smooth sailing as one would want join a new team on a big contract.
According to the Canuck Way, they seem to share the same point of view, where they feel his offense is not what will be the determining factor that will make this signing a regret, but his play on the defensive side of the puck.
Vancouver has its scorers, and that was the case before DeBrusk came to town. While they're on pace to finish with between 264 and 265 goals this season, they're also on pace to give up even more - Todd Matthews
The advanced analytics even back us up here, he has an abysmal 86.1% on-ice save percentage and has already been on the ice for 11 goals allowed in just 13 games.
I guess, only time will tell at this point, the production offensively seems to be improving, but its 200 feet down the ice that is costing his team games.
