Paul Bissonnette Calls Out The Nashville Predators For Not Re-Signing Canucks Forward Kiefer Sherwood
Former NHLer Paul Bissonnette was full of praise for Kiefer Sherwood on the Game Notes podcast, while calling out Nashville for not-resigning him.
Back in July, the Vancouver Canucks announced the signing of Kiefer Sherwood to a two-year contract worth $1.5 million per season.
The signing came just over two months after the Canucks had to face Kiefer Sherwood during the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs and it's safe to say they liked what they saw.
So far this season, Sherwood is on pace to beat his previous career highs in goals and points, with one former NHLer thinking the Nashville Predators made a mistake by not re-signing him.
Paul Bissonnette calls out the Nashville Predators for not re-signing Kiefer Sherwood
During an appearance on the Game Notes podcast with Matt Murley and Colby Armstrong, former NHL enforcer Paul Bissonnette was full of praise for Vancouver Canucks forward Kiefer Sherwood and what he brings to Rick Tocchet's group.
"Going back to Sherwood, boys, he's a poor mans Lehkonen. You need players who are going to get in the fore-check and get the puck back. You have to have a few of those players. You could compare him to Conor Garland. He's a guy who's going to go do all the hard work. He's, throughout junior and throughout his time in the AHL, he played on the first line. So he knows what it's like to play in those situations and he's not intimidated by playing at the top. When you get a guy who's used to playing top lines from a young age, even in the AHL and then finally kind of rounds out his game to say 'well yeah, I don't have the high-end skill at the NHL level that Elias Pettersson does, but I can make plays with him and go get the puck for him and get open for him and create physicality around him'." Bissonnette said. Bissonnette also called out the Nashville Predators, saying they should have re-signed the gritty forward as he's someone the team could use right now.
"You don't want to pay Kiefer Sherwood a million and a half dollars, Nashville? Fine. Go lose the season. Go miss Playoffs. Congratulations." Bissonnette said.
Kiefer Sherwood has not only been bringing the offense for the Vancouver Canucks, he's also using his body in a pretty big way, leading the National Hockey League in hits with 115 in 18 games - 20 more than his former teammate in Nashville, Jeremy Lauzon.
If Kiefer Sherwood is able to continue at this pace, there's no doubt he could obliterate the NHL single-season hits record, which is 383, currently held by Jeremy Lauzon of the Nashville Predators.
With the offense he's bringing and the physicality as well, it's safe to say Patrik Allvin may have struck gold when signing Kiefer Sherwood to just $1.5 million per season.
