A National Hockey League insider has revealed that former Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes didn't want to play for the New Jersey Devils after all.

Following months of rumors, with several teams ultimately being in the mix, the Vancouver Canucks pulled the trigger on a trade sending captain Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild, a move that shocked the hockey world on Friday night.
While the Minnesota Wild certainly make sense for Quinn Hughes, everyone was expecting expecting the blueliner to end up with the New Jersey Devils to unite with his brothers Jack and Luke.
"Once Vancouver announced they were open for business, sent that email around to the league, I do believe there was a conversation, at least one, between the New Jersey Devils and Canucks about Quinn Hughes and I stress, I do not believe there is anything imminent, I don't even know that they're anywhere far along. But I do believe that conversation was had about where things stand and where they might be going." Elliotte Friedman said earlier this month.

NHL insider reveals Quinn Hughes didn't want to play for New Jersey Devils

The New Jersey Devils submitted an offer to the Vancouver Canucks for Quinn Hughes, but couldn't clear out the necessary cap space to get a deal done, however despite having the chance to play with his brothers, it doesn't appear that the now-former captain wanted to suit up in The Garden State.
During an appearance on Sekeres and Price, Michael Russo of The Athletic shared that Quinn Hughes wasn't too interested in playing for the New Jersey Devils because he didn't want to put his brother Luke in a bad position.
"I think the Wild feel like they have an excellent change to re-sign him and I'm hearing more and more that he probably doesn't want to go to New Jersey because of the role it might put Luke in." Russo said.

It's a good point that Russo raises because if the New Jersey Devils were to acquire Quinn Hughes, then it would bump Luke Hughes down the lineup, potentially to the third defensive pairing, which wouldn't be ideal for both the team and the player's development.
However, you can never say never and while Quinn Hughes might be feeling that way at this time, in a year-and-a-half, he may change his tune and want to sign with the Devils when he becomes an unrestricted free agent.
