Rick Tocchet shares humble response when asked about Jack Adams Award
A lot of Vancouver's success this season is thanks to head coach Rick Tocchet, who was honoured by the NHL for the work he did in 2023-24.
Last month, the National Hockey League announced that Rick Tocchet was the 2023-24 recipient of the Jack Adams Award which is handed out annually to the best coach.
"Rick Tocchet has won the 2023-2024 Jack Adams Award. 🏆"
In a recent interview with Daren Millard on 'The Chirp' podcast, Tocchet was asked about winning the award and he gave a very humble response, saying that he had plenty of help from others in the organization this season and that he's proud to be this season's recipient.
"I know it's an organizational trophy, and a lot of people helped me out," he said. "I'm proud of it, but my mind is always thinking ahead, like, what do we do next year? Do I change training camp?"
Tocchet, 60, joined the Vancouver Canucks in January 2023 as a replacement for Bruce Boudreau and ever since, the team has flourished under the three-time Stanley Cup champion and it's safe to say that the organization made the right decision to bring him in.
He led the Canucks to their best regular season finish in over a decade as they took home the Pacific Division title with a record of 50-23-9. Their 50 wins during the 2023-24 season are the third most in franchise history only trailing the 2010-11 (54 wins) and 2011-12 (51 wins) campaigns.
